Black Bear Camp is a quiet wilderness four season lodge located on the north shore of beautiful Birch Lake in Northeastern. Ontario, approximately five hours north of Toronto, three hours east of Saint Ste. Marie, ON (NB) or one hour west of Sudbury, ON. We have ten waterfront housekeeping log and frame cabins and 35 family campsites. Member of NOTO (Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters), Ducks Unlimited Canada, OFAH (Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters).

ADVENTURE: ATVing (Clubs welcome - hundreds of miles of crown land and logging roads to explore - helmets and insurance required), rock climbing, water skiing, wind surfing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing.

FAMILY VACATIONS: Swimming (safe 600'natural sand beach with no sudden drop offs), swim raft, playground, store (basics plus ice and bait), souvenirs, sauna, fishing, boating, hiking and biking trails, ATVing, photography, painting, (incredible scenery) campfires, shore lunches, berry and mushroom picking, site seeing, canoeing, pedal boat, bocce lawn bowling, crochet, horseshoes, picnics and just plain old relaxing.

AMERICAN PLAN: Not available in July and August. Pre-bookings only. Have one two or three all you can eat meals per day, minimum of four people per booking.

CABINS/COTTAGES: We have ten log and frame lakefront cabins that are fully equipped for housekeeping, dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, propane stove with oven, full electric fridge with top freezer, wood stove for heat (wood supplied), electric lights, electric coffee pot, electric toaster, running cold well water, inside port potties plus private clean outhouse, table and chairs, beds with pillows and pillow cases, fire pit and picnic table and a central shower building with hot and cold water.

AVAILABLE AT CAMP: Boats and motors, gas and oil, docking, boat launch, bait, ice, fishing tackle, licences, store with the basics, shirts and hats, sauna, playground, horseshoes., swimming, biking, hiking and ATV trails, central shower, laundry, pay phone (cards only), family campground, pedal boat and canoe.

PETS: Must be quiet, leached and cleaned up after right away. You will be responsible for any damages.

AREA ATTRACTIONS: Webbwood: (20 minutes) Gas, Corner Store with Liquor, and Beer,, Post Office, Churches, restaurant. Espanola: (30 Minutes) Shopping (Department and Grocery), gas, Bingo, Restaurants + Fast Food (KFC, McDonalds, Wendy's, Dairy Queen, Tim Horton's), Dom tar Paper Mill Tour, banks, liquor and beer, golf, churches. Masses: (40 minutes) Museum, golf, bingo, churches, bank, shopping (grocery and department), gas. Manitoulin Island: (1 hour to all day) Great day trip (site seeing), nice beaches, shopping, gift shops, ferry ride, golf, nature walks, native crafts. Sudbury: (60 -15 minutes) Science North (hands on science for all ages), IMAX theatre, mall shopping, grocery shopping, movie theatres, Big Nickel mine tours, boat tours, churches, golf, restaurants plus fast food and much more.

DISCOUNTS: (excluding July and August) OFAH - 10%, ATV Club Members - 10% Church Groups - no charge for picnic area. Youth Groups - no charge camping.

WE ACCEPT: VISA, AMEX (American Express), Canadian and US cash, Bank Travelers Cheques. Deposits on cabins: $100 CND or $70 US payable within two weeks of booking by personal cheque or money order (sorry we cannot accept credit card information over the radio telephone system or Internet - not secure Sorry, not able to accept debit cards payments due to the remote radio telephone.

RESERVATIONS: Reservations are recommended, especially for the larger cabins and for July, August and long weekends. Failure to pay deposit within two weeks will forfeit reservation. Cabin deposits refunded up to 30 days prior to reservation less 25% handling fees.

CAMPFIRES: Permitted at each campsite and cabin during the hours of 7 PM -10 AM Only. Wood may be purchased from the store.

BAIT: We sell leeches, worms and artificial tackle. Minnow's may be purchased in Webbwood at the OLCO Gas Station on your way here. Do not transport leeches across the border - prohibited as of 2000.

CUSTOMS: Anyone with a DWI must make special arrangements before crossing the border or you may be turned away. You are allowed to bring one 40 oz. bottle of liquor OR 24 cans/bottles of beer AND the following: 1 carton of cigarettes, 50 cigars, 200 tobacco sticks, 200 grams of tobacco, perfume and gifts. Alcohol and tobacco products may not be declared as gifts. Plus your regular food and clothing items and 5 gallons of gas plus whatever is in your vehicle or boat.
