Walleye Fishing

Walleye are the most hunted game fish in Canada. It's true that they have a scrappy fight but the main reason for their popularity is that they are easy to clean and taste fantastic. There are many people who will say that Walleye are the best tasting fish in the world.

Here at Black Bear Camp, we have good Walleye fishing due to several factors. The first being our conservation attitude and the second is our remote northern location. The main reason is the health of Birch lake. There is so much bait fish forage that the lake can support an almost unbelievable population. There are many trophies in the 7 to 8 pound range caught and released each year.

The limit for Walleye is 1 per person per day or possession. Summer Walleye season opens the third Saturday in May until December 31. Walleye ice fishing is open from January 1 to April 14. To keep a Walleye, the fish must have a minimum length of 50 cm (19.6 inches). A strip of skin 1 inch wide must be left on the fillet when transporting the fish back over the U.S.A border.
